Pigmentation Removal

Pigmentation Removal

Pigmentation is a common concern that affects people having lighter skin.

Melasma

Melasma is a common skin disorder seen mostly in women. It causes dry and flaky brownish-grey patches on the skin, mostly on the cheeks, chin, forehead and nose.

Melasma is most commonly caused due to hormonal changes like pregnancy or contraceptive pills, but it can be caused due to sun exposure as well. Melasma is an on-going treatment and will require multiple sittings and maintenance to prevent recurrence. It is generally treated using skin lightening procedures.

Micro needling

Micro needling is a new technique that is found to be very effective in repairing and rejuvenating the skin. The procedure involves using a derma roller (a facial roller with micro needles) in particular movements to stimulate the production of collagen. Collagen has been known to have skin-repairing properties.

This treatment reduces the appearance of pigmentation, large pores, acne scars, and fine lines and to an extent, signs of ageing. Micro needling results in bright, even-toned, smooth, plump and glowing skin. This procedure is painless and has the additional benefits of increased circulation to the face.

The above procedures may cause redness, tenderness and irritation. No makeup except humectants prior-treatment or post-treatment. Avoiding sun exposure is advisable and using sun protection of 30+ SPF is recommended.

Sun-Spots

Actinic lentigines are commonly known as sunspots. They are grey-brown dots found on the areas of skin that has had prolonged exposure to the sun without adequate sun protection.
They are found on the arms, legs, back, neck and sometimes present as ‘freckles’ on the face. This form of hyper pigmentation is a common and harmless problem that can be easily treated but requires maintenance to prevent recurrence.

Treatment options are
1. Laser resurfacing
2. RF resurfacing
3. Chemical peeling
4. Microdermabrasion

Undereye Dark Circles

Dark circles are the most common form of hyper pigmentation disorders.

Causes

  1. Sleep deprivation
  2. Pigment deposit (hemosiderin or melanin)
  3. Periorbital fat loss (volume loss)
  4. Skin laxity
  5. Fatigue
  6. Dehydration
  7. Hereditary

Treatment options depend on the severity and the root cause behind the problem

1. Topical cream

This is a common treatment and maintenance method for under eye dark circles. Depending on the severity of the condition the topical cream may include a combination of vitamins, retinoid, caffeine, niacinamide and hyaluronic acid. Topical creams have to be used with consistency to show its true result over-time

2. Fillers

Fillers on are made up of substances like hyaluronic acid etc. These dermal fillers are used to volumize and add fullness to the periorbital region, replacing the volume loss. Fillers are also a temporary treatment that will need maintenance every few months. Fillers result in plump and bouncy skin which can reduce the appearance of under eye wrinkles and sagging skin.

3. Chemical peel

4. Laser treatment

5. Micro needling

6. Surgery

Under eye bags with excess sagging or drooping can be removed surgically which results in tight, clear, de-puffed under eyes.
