Lip Augmentation

Lip Augmentation

Lip fillers

  • Lip fillers are injected into the upper and lower lips.
  • There are different types of lip fillers, including Juvéderm, Restylane, etc.
  • Lip filler augmentation is an in-office procedure.
  • During the consultation, your doctor will assess your lips and overall facial balance. Your doctor will take pictures of your lips to determine the symmetry and shape of your lips. Then your doctor will determine which areas of your lips need to be fuller and plumper.
  • The lip filler augmentation procedure takes about fifteen to thirty minutes to complete. The patient can go home the day itself. Since lip fillers only last six to eight months, it is only a semi-permanent solution.

Fat grafting

  • Fat grafting is an alternative to artificial fillers is for lip augmentation. It is called autologous lip augmentation. Like lip fillers, fat transfer to the lips is an in-office procedure. It is performed under local anesthesia.
  • During fat transfer to the lips, fat is harvested from the abdomen (around the belly button), purified, and transferred into your lips. Lips augmented with fat stay plump for five years or longer.

Lip reduction

This is done to decrease the volume of the lips. Lip reduction surgery is useful if you want smaller lips. It is a safe procedure.

Anesthesia

Either local or general

Lip Reduction Surgery

It involves removing skin tissues from the lower or upper lips, or sometimes both. This is done in an effort to reshape the entire lip area. During the procedure, a surgeon makes an incision in a horizontal line in the pink inner portion of your lip. This minimizes scarring. The surgeon then removes excess fat and tissues from the lip to reduce its overall volume. Once all the targeted tissues are removed, the surgeon will close up the incision with absorbable stitches. To achieve the desired shape and volume reduction, the surgeon removes a greater portion from the center of the lower lip.

Side effects

Redness, swelling, and slight pain within the first few days after your surgery.

Recovery time

  • Swelling and redness can last for a few days.
  • It can take a week or two for the sutures to come out and for your lips to completely heal.
  • During recovery, your doctor may recommend applying ice packs to your lips.
