Labiaplasty - Labial Reduction
Labiaplasty is to reduce the size and the shape of either the labia majora or labia minora to improve the aesthetic appearance of external genitalia. Labiaplasty can be considered to the women who have saggy or bulky labia minora due to the following reasons
- Following child birth by vaginal route
- From intercourse
- Stretching with weights
- Obesity
- Congenital
Functional Reasons
- Irritation when wearing tight clothing
- Pain during cycling and similar sports activities
- Difficulty in maintaining hygiene
Aesthetic Reasons
- Appearance of bulge under their clothing
- Embarrassment during sexual intercourse
It is usually performed under general anesthesia or under local anesthesia with sedation. The duration of surgery is from 1-2 hrs. It is usually a day care procedure. Some soreness and swelling lasts for 24 to 48 hours.
Post procedure
- Sexual activity can be attempted within 4-6 weeks.
- Time taken to return to work varies and it is between 1-4 weeks.
- Exercise may be resumed in 6-8 weeks.
- Final results will be seen within 2-3 weeks of surgery.
